There are plenty of reasons we get wrinkles–aging, skin changes, smoking, sun exposure, and much more. In some cases, wrinkles can be fine and others are deeper and more noticeable. But there is help. Dr. Hessel is proud to offer the first FDA-approved wrinkle treatment of its kind to address moderate to severe frown lines and crows feet.

Botox

Botox injections work by relaxing the muscles in and around a wrinkle to smooth the area—making them less noticeable or disappear completely. Botox is especially helpful for wrinkles in the forehead or between the eyebrows. The medication is quick and relatively painless to inject and will take full effect within a week of treatment.

Botox FAQs

Botox is made from a chemical compound called a neurotoxin that is made by the bacteria clostridium botulinum. When used appropriately, this neurotoxin causes the muscles to relax and smoothes out wrinkles at the same time. Botox is given by injection–yes–with a needle in specific muscles of the face.

Sometimes patients worry that the injections will freeze their face, making them look stiff and unnatural. But there’s no need to worry. When Botox cosmetic is administered by a trained professional, you’ll look natural. And it’s quick too–you can come in for treatment and be back to work within the hour.

The results of your Botox cosmetic injections can last several weeks. Everyone is different and results may vary slightly, but you can expect to see good results within a week of your injection and almost 3/4 of patients were still sporting their wrinkle-free skin 30 days or more after the procedure.
As with any injection, you may expect pain at the injection site, redness or a little swelling. Eyelid drooping and swelling may also occur.

For some people, side effects may also include dry mouth, tiredness, headache, neck pain or eye problems like blurry or double vision. Of course these symptoms don’t happen for everyone, so talk to Dr. Hessel about your risk when you come in for your injection.

Juvederm

Juvederm injectable fillers use hyaluronic acid—a natural component of skin and muscles to fill deep folds and wrinkles in the skin.  Fillers create instant results and are absorbed by the body over the course of months or years depending on which filler is used. Juvederm is an excellent option for filling thinning lips, augmenting the hollows under the eyes, filling creases between the eyebrows and plumping the area from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC temporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face. The lidocaine in the gel improves the comfort of the injection.
